RADAR45 Tastemaker FINAL Nels Hylton 1

28 June 2023

THIS WEEKS PLAYLIST

1. RAUE – KARMA

A band that has been stuck on repeat for me for weeks now hailing from Santa Cruz, California – but creating that incredible 90s Grunge style Rock and dragging it kicking and screaming into the 21 st Century. A young two piece with a bright future in California’s ever growing new music
scene.

2. PRESENT – KILL THE MOTH

If Raue is up you’re street – you’ll also be big fans of Bay Area alt rock act Present who first peaked my interest with their track New – Kill The Moth is the perfect follow up with hints of a reincarnated Milk Teeth bleeding through their sound. The two tracks released in 2023 reflect a strong start to the year from Present.

3. MARLHY – STUDIO APARTMENT

Completely independent multi-instrumentalist Marlhy never fails to show off her talent in music through her writing and performing showing us she was simply born to do this. With a strong back catalogue which includes hits like Kamikaze, Temporary and Demons, Studio Apartment shows us a new dimension and a new level of vulnerability for Marlhy as she takes us through a real coming of age track.

4. SWIM SCHOOL – BORED
UK Shoegaze is on the rise and no one is flying the flag harder than Swim School a Scottish three piece who write music for every mood. With influences spanning indie pop, dream pop and 90s grunge, the band tackle delicate subjects throughout their library.

5. TEENAGE WRIST FEAT. SOFTCULT – STILL LOVE
Canadian Rockers Softcult have been making a huge impact with the release of EP See You InThe Dark with more music tipped to be on the way later this year, the first taste of that being the collaboration we needed with Teenage Wrist a band as difficult as Softcult to put into one single box.

6. SOUTH ARCADE – UNAWARE
One of my biggest discoveries in 2022 was finding Oxford based quartet South Arcade who are quickly becoming one of the hardest working bands in the UK Scene. A band that is deeply in touch with their fanbase and dreams of being on the next Tony Hawk Pro Skater’s Soundtrack – the future is unbelievably bright for these four.

7. AILSHA – ENEMY
All hail the new queen of the Alternative from Dublin, Ailsha combines heavenly vocals will killer guitar riffs to show she means business in this music game. A music creator in every sense of the word – Ailsha produces music for your favourite video games which could be the reason this track rings through like the soundtrack to a final boss fight.

8. HRTLSS – PULL THE TRIGGGER
When we talk about genre blending – theres no better example than HRTLSS, elements of rock, pop and even darker elements of hip hop run deep throughout his music, making his new project Play Pretend an exciting listen, with Pull The Trigger standing out.

9. PINEGROVE – NEED 2
Originally released in 2015 – the world has been going crazy doing the Pinegrove shuffle challenge – so much so that the band chose to re-release the hit, and keep us shuffling long after summer is over.

10. K.FLAY – RAW RAW
One of the original lane changers – K.Flay doesn’t disappoint with her return styling a more mature refined sound and wearing her experiences like armour to show us she means business and leaves us excited for what comes next.

11. SLACKRR – LIE TO ME
12. DEAD PONY – MK NOTHING
13. JOEY VALANCE & BRAE – DANCE NOW
14. SAMIA & BLONDSHELL – CHARM YOU
15. CTRL - WREN
16. SETTLE – HER FAVOURITE DRESS
17. GWYN – WASTE MY TIME
18. MAYA MALKIN - MONOPOLY
19. WILLOW – ur a <stranger>
20. The Luka State – More Than This
21. Chlothegod – OUTTA MY MIND
22. HEX GF - KNIFE
